This event is FREE and open to the public.
Join us as we welcome Amazing Women of Worcester, a coloring book featuring profiles of twenty amazing women from the city's history with drawings created by nine talented local female artists. This collection of inspiring stories was created by local public historian Anne Marie Murphy, author of A Proper Fit: Women at Work in a City of Corsets, a forthcoming history of Worcester's corset industry (spring 2025, TidePool Press).
The Amazing Women of Worcester coloring book was created with support from Worcester Women’s History Project at the Museum of Worcester. This is one of the many projects/programs to be held within a yearlong celebration of the momentous first national U.S. Women's Rights Convention held in Worcester in October 1850.
The coloring book artists come from diverse backgrounds: a muralist, video game creators, a tattoo artist, book illustrators, and others. Author Anne Marie Murphy and artists will convene to answer questions about the project and celebrate its completion. There will be a brief video presentation about the evolution of the book, the opportunity to meet the women involved in its creation, and plenty of time to grab crayons and colored pencils to do some coloring. Books will be available for purchase. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Museum of Worcester will be donating 100 coloring books to local organizations including Girl’s Inc., Boys and Girl’s Club, Worcester Youth Center, and Friendly House.
The coloring book project is supported in part by a grant to Museum of Worcester (MOW) from the Worcester Arts Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
